SM Groups

Football for many years has brought people from many different backgrounds, ages, nationalities etc together. Legend has it that even on Christmas Day in 1914, the soldiers of the Great War (1914-18) declared a truce, in order to have a game of football in ‘no mans land’. Soccer Manager believes that our SM Groups will help bring people from different backgrounds, ages, nationalities etc closer together, and that it will also help you develop new friendships with like minded individuals.

[edit] What are SM Groups

SM Groups are a social network service focused on the building of communities for people who share interests and activities, or who are interested in exploring the interests and activities of others in relation to the same football club.

[edit] Who can access them

The SM Group feature is available to every member within our community. You can access SM Groups via the main tool bar under ‘Media’, and then ‘SM Groups'. You can also access SM Groups from 'My Home' page and from your SM Profile.

[edit] SM Groups

When you access the SM Groups page, you will be taken to the Fan Groups page, and you will have two main options. First, Browse Groups. Second, My Groups. Obviously if you access SM Groups for the first time, you will not have any groups under My Groups, and you will have to find a group which you wish to join.

[edit] How to join a new group

There are two ways in which you can join a new group. First, you can put the name of the club in the search box (where it states ‘enter club name’), and then click on the Search Groups button. The search will display any relevant results from the text which you have entered previously in the search bar. Second, you can select a country to view football club fan groups from that country.

For example (in relation to the second method), if you wanted to join the Barcelona Fan Club: First, select Spain, and you will then be displayed a message stating ‘50 fan groups in Spain found in our database’. Second, click on Barcelona, and you will then be taken to the Barcelona Fan Club page.

[edit] Layout

Each SM Group you access, either via the Search Groups button or from select a country to view football club fan groups from that country, will have the same layout:

‘Insert Name’ Fan Club

  • Description: Join this group if you are a fan or have something to discuss;
  • Real Life Squad: ‘Insert Name’ Real Life Squad (click on link to access);
  • Manage this club?: Search all Setups for ‘Insert Name’ (click on link to access);
  • Join this group (click on link to join);
  • Discussion Board: Start New topic (click on link to access);
  • Comments Board: (click on link to access);
  • Members: Lists current group members;
  • Invite People to Join: Invite your friends to join you in your group. Your friend will receive a Private Message from you.

Group Moderators are allowed to officiate any group. They have the power to delete abusive/inappropriate comments and/or discussions.

[edit] Using groups

Once you have joined a group, you will then be able to access all of the features related to your group, and you will also be able to interact with other like minded individuals.

[edit] Comments Board

The primary use of the comments board is to leave a quick comment to other members, and this will encourage short discussion amongst the group. You can delete any comment which you have made by clicking on the delete' button within the comments board. You can also send a message to any person who has left a comment by clicking on the Send Private Message button.

[edit] Discussion Board

The primary use of the discussion board is to create a topic for other members to discuss, and this will encourage discussion amongst the group. To create a new topic click on Start New Topic, then simply enter your text within the box provided, and then click on Post New Topic. You can delete any topic which you have made by clicking on the delete' button within the discussion board (but only if there are only a handful of replies). You can also send a message to any person who has left a comment by clicking on the Send Private Message button.

Please Note: You can only start a new topic if you are a member of the group in question.

[edit] Inviting friends to Join a group

You can invite your Soccer Manager friends to join you at a group.

Click on the Invite Friends to Join on the right side of the main groups page.

You will then see a list of friends that you can invite to the group.

Note: friends that are already a member of the group will not be shown in your list of friends to invite. Also friends that have been banned from a group will not be shown either.

If you wish to send an invite to a single or a few friends, untick the Select All Friends tick box and then tick the friends you wish to invite and then click the Invite Selected button.

Each invited friend will receive a Private Messages message from you inviting them to the group. This message is sent automatically by us.

The invite will contain a link to the groups' main page such that they can join easily if they wish to do so.

What can I do if my friend doesn't receive the automated private invite message? See the Groups FAQ below.

Clicking the cancel link will return you to the groups' main page.

[edit] Leaving a group

You can also leave a group you have joined at any time, and to do this you need to click on Leave Group which is located under the club badge. You will then be asked to confirm if you want to remove your membership from the group in question, and if you do you will need to click on the Confirm button.

[edit] Using SM Groups

By using the SM Groups you are agreeing to the Terms and Conditions, and must abide by these at all times.
